The Intruder (1999), Natalie Bookchin

The Intruder is a web-based hybrid interactive narrative that merges computer games and literature. In the game, based on a short story by Jorge Luis Borges, players move forward in the story by playing a sequence of 10 games modelled after classic arcade games, and “winning” a piece of a narrative voiceover. The Intruder foregrounds conventional gendered positions embedded in popular game metaphors, and places players in untenable ethical positions as they engage in game play.
